CONTINUOUS CASTING PLANTS
VEM is specialized and leading manufacturers of Horizontal Brass Strip, Copper Strip, Brass Rod, Copper Rod Continuous Casting Plants.
We have the proud distinction of manufacturing and installing India's first indigenously developed Brass Strip Continuous Casting Line in Rewari, Haryana.
We also have installed the largest plant in Himachal Pradesh, India for casting 650mm x 16mm Brass Strips through Horizontal Continuous Casting.
The entire Continuous Casting Plant consists of several equipment.
It starts from melting the raw material depending on desired chemistry in our Induction Melting Furnace.
The melt is then held at a certain temperature in our Induction Holding Furnaces.
The heart of the plant is the Continuous Casting Mold which solidifies the molten metal into size as required. The grain structure of the strip are formed at this stage.
The Continuously Cast Sheet is withdrawn using precisely controlled cycles in our Sheet Withdrawal Machine.
The strip then passes through floating Shear Machine to the Up coiler Machine where it is continuously coiled to be subsequently rolled.
The quality of our casting confirms to international standards and cast strips can be subsequently rolled to minimum of o.o1 mm in thickness.
FEATURES OF OUR CONTINUOUS CASTING PLANT
1. Low Energy Consumption (about 400kWh/tonne)
2. High Production Rate (upto 5 ton/h)
3. Refined Grain Characteristics.
4. Profiles that can be cast : Sheets, Rods, Tubes.
5. Operator friendly Interface.
6. Precise Control of Withdrawal Cycles depending on alloys.

CONTINUOUS CASTING a BRASSES
The full range of alloys from around 10 wt% zinc to 35 wt% zinc can be continuously cast without difficulty in the form of strip, rod and hollow section.
CONTINUOUS CASTING a-B BRASSES
The a-B brasses, generally in the range 57 to 61 wt% copper, are again continuous cast without difficulty in the form of strip, rod and hollow section, over a wide range of sizes. As with the a-brasses the casting temperature should be controlled to
around 100° --+ 150°C above the liquidus to minimize zinc losses.
CONTINUOUS CASTING FREE MACHINING a-B BRASSES
The addition of lead in the range 1 to 3 wt% to the a-B brasses is made to improve machinability. Lead, being practically insoluble in brass in the solid state, separates out in small isolated globules uniformly distributed throughout the structure. The microscopic lead particles act as chip breakers, significantly improving machinability.
Lead particle distribution is excellent in continuous cast structures.
CONTINUOUS CASTING OF COPPER BASED ALLOYS
CONTINUOUS CASTING OXYGEN FREE COPPER
Oxygen-free high-conductivity copper (BS1400 HCC1) is produced extensively in billet or rod form by continuous casting. Very low impurity levels in the product are ensured by using as feedstock high-grade cathode (Cu-Cath-l).
CONTINUOUS CASTING COPPER (PHOSPHOROUS DEOXIDISED) ALLOYS
Phosphorus-deoxidised copper is used in applications where the copper must be resistant to gassing (i.e. the production surface blisters or internal pores) where the product is subjected to heat treatment in the form of welding, soldering, etc. The oxygen is eliminated by deoxidation with phosphorus. The alloys are classified Cu-DLP with low residual phosphorus and Cu-DHP with high residual phosphorus.
CONTINUOUS CASTING COPPER CADMIUM ALLOYS
Extensive use is made of copper-cadmium alloys (CDA alloys C16200 and C16201) as electric trolley wire. The material is used as an alternative to oxygen-free copper based on higher strength while still maintaining high electrical conductivity.
